HARARE- Magistrate Vakai Chikwekwe yesterday reduced bail to $50 for the 58 Epworth and Mabvuku demonstrators, who are still in custody after failing to raise the initial $100 bail granted on Friday last week.
The demonstrators’ lawyer, Trust Maanda also successfully requested the court to have Bindura University of Science Education student, Dudzai Jingu to be allowed to report once at Bindura Police Station.
In his application, Maanda further requested the court to issue an order for the release of vehicles of some of the suspects that were seized by police during the demonstration.
However, the magistrate ordered Maanda to compile the names of the suspects, whose vehicles were seized, before they could be released to them.
The 58 suspects were part of a group of 106 demonstrators from Epworth and Mabvuku, who were arrested on July 4 following demonstrations over police corruption at roadblocks.
