Youths are set to get houses after government announced their plan to role out a national youth housing scheme to ensure that they have access to shelter.
Speaking at a Youth Housing Symposium hosted by the Zimbabwe Youth Council in Harare, Youth, Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment Deputy Minister Mathias Tongofa said it is important for youth organisations to organise themselves and approach Government to facilitate the provision of residential land.
“We have Government arms and partners such as the Urban Development Corporation (UDCORP) and Infrastructural Development Bank of Zimbabwe (IDBZ), which are there to facilitate the processes of providing land to youths in the country,” he said.
He said Government would look into prospects of developing housing schemes specifically meant for the youths.
“As a ministry responsible for the youth, we have a mandate to assist youths and companies in Zimbabwe and ensure that indigenisation policies benefit the youth,” said Tongofa.
He claimed land policies and the distribution of residential stands were not influenced by political standing or any other criteria that might be deemed discriminatory.
