A WOMAN from Pelandaba suburb in Bulawayo allegedly ignored her 17-year-old niece’s pleas for help when she was being raped by her husband.
The woman, whose name was not disclosed in court, allegedly turned a blind eye as her husband Jacob Nkomo, 30, raped the girl.
Nkomo yesterday appeared before Western Commonage court facing three counts of rape.
He was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to May 31.
The court heard that the girl allegedly told her aunt, on all three occasions, that her husband was raping her but she allegedly ordered her to keep quiet before threatening her.
At one time, the court heard, Nkomo told the girl to seek answers from her mother about why he was having sexual intercourse with her.
Her mother’s whereabouts were not disclosed in court.
The court also heard that the girl was raped over a period of three years; in 2014, 2015 and in March this year.
On all three occasions, the girl reported the matter to her aunt who allegedly ignored her pleas and told her to keep silent. She later told her other aunt who exposed the alleged rape.
