Girls at Sivomo Secondary School in Nkayi mysteriously fainted after complaining of headaches last week but no boys were reported to be affected by the headache or collapsed.
Sources at the school said the girls frothed from the mouth during the incident last Thursday.
Ward 18 Village head Amos Dube, under chief Tshugulu, said the situation was tense and they had to call in a traditional healer.
Last year the school and its neighbor Matetshaneni primary were affected by the mass fainting. Both schools engaged traditional healers to cleanse the schools and the problem stopped.
Villagers suspected witchcraft as they sighted that if it was hunger, boys would also have been affected.
Matabeleland North provincial education director, Boithatelo Mnguni, could not be comment as she was in a meeting.
Nkayi District Administrator Mandlamakhulu Moyo said a team was going to the school to investigate the matter.
