Three men from Umguza resorted to violence in a bid to extract a missing phone from a suspect.
Sibangilizwe Dube , 39, Thamsanqa Ncube, 48, and Zebeldiah Tshuma,52, were brought before the courts for assaulting Ntandoyenkosi Sibanda,23.
It is alleged that Ncube failed to locate his phone at his work place , prompting him to call Dube and Tshuma, who are members of the neighborhood watch committee.
Tshuma and Dube were told that Sibanda was the suspect leading to the three man teaming against him.
Sibanda’s hands and legs were tied, before the three burnt his buttocks with charcoal. They failed to locate the phone through this method.
The trio then took Sibanda to a local homestead where they were drinking beer and took turns to bash him with a shambok.
A resident who had seen the assailants assaulting Sibanda reported the matter to his mother who in turn took it to the police leading to their arrest.
Tshuma pleaded guilty and was remanded in prison awaiting sentence. Dube and Ncube denied allegations and were remanded out of custody for $100 bail each until 3 March.
