The boyfriend of a
woman accused of having killed their four-month-daughter says he forgives her.
The mum apparently fell asleep and suffocated the child while drunk.
Speaking to Daily Sun, Andrew Tsie (42) from phase 6 in Mangaung said it was not the first time his girlfriend had put the baby's life in danger.
He said: "When our daughter was four days old, she left her alone in the house and went boozing. Now at four months, she has killed her!"
Daily Sun published the story about the child's death after little Mamello died over the weekend.
She was found by a woman who had taken Mamello's 16-month-old brother home after finding him walking alone on a dangerous road.
Andrew said despite the fact that he was devastated by his child's death, he wanted her mum to get bail and attend her funeral.
"I forgive my girlfriend. I have tried in many ways to make her stop drinking but she could not quit her habit," he said.
When asked about neighbours' comments that both he and his girlfriend were negligent, he said he was the man of the house.
"I am not the one who gave birth to the child and not the one who is supposed to breast feed. I drink alcohol but she is the one at fault here," said Andrew.
"We met two years ago and at the time, she was with her two-year-old daughter and told me she was married to a man in the Northern Cape.
"She said she had six children with her first husband in Barkly West."
Andrew said after the woman took her two-year-old back to her husband, she went to live with him in the Free State.
They had two children together, a boy who has been taken away by social workers and the girl who died.
The 45-year-old woman was arrested and charged with child neglect and murder.
She will appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court soon.
