Some male inmates in a Ghana prison have reportedly resorted to sniffing ladies' underwear for sexual satisfaction.
The bizarre practice is said to be gaining grounds especially at the Nsawam Prison.
Apparently friends and relatives smuggle the ladies' underwear into the prisons at the behest of the sex-starved inmates.
Prisoners who wish to satisfy their sexual pleasure through such perverse fetish craving pay one Ghana cedi ($0.50 USD) for a three-minute sniffing period.
Those with transvestite craving pay between two ($1.00 USD) and five ($2.50 USD) Ghana cedis to wear the ladies' underwear for two or three minutes.
Ghana's chief psychiatrist Dr. Akwasi Osei in an interview with XYZ News said the practice is a sexual orientation disorder.
"If your means of seeking sexual gratification is abnormal we consider that as a sexual orientation disorder" Dr. Akwasi Osei said.
"This particular method that is seeking sexual gratification through sniffing or smelling the opposite sex' panties.. is called fetishism"
Dr Akwesi Osei added that persons suffering from this disorder need to be treated.
