Angry residents have gathered at a missing pastor's house at Chief Albert Luthuli extension 6 near Benoni in Ekurhuleni, SA.
They claim that they heard a desperate cry in the night coming from a pastor's house and the next day the pastor was missing.
They demand that his wife and children leave the area, accusing them of killing pastor Caiphus Mohlala (57).
They said the family must bring Caiphus back from where they are hiding him.
The family was rescued by cops from the angry crowd and the house is under police guard.
Caiphus' wife, who refused to give her name, said she and her husband have not been at peace for a long time.
But she has nothing to do with his disappearance.
She said the noise the community heard was her children's friends were arguing in the house.
One of the children said she was there when her father left the house.
"He said he was coming back," she said.
Residents claim a car that belongs to the woman's son left the house at high speed.
They believe it was taking Caiphus away.
Lieutenant Nomsa Sekele said: "Caiphus is still missing. His wife and kids are now at the police station.
"A shack which was in the yard where the woman's son stayed was burnt by the residents."
