An ANC branch chairman is on the run after allegedly beating an 83-year-old man to death.
The suspect reportedly accused the old man of being involved in evil deeds when he found him sleeping with some of his clothes off in his yard in Eersterust, Tshwane.
It's suspected that instead of helping the senior, who suffered from mental problems, the man beat him with an iron bar.
The victim, Piet Gama, was a pastor at the Faith Apostolic Church before he became ill and had to resign.
His grieving widow Christina (73) told Daily Sun: "In the early hours of Sunday morning, Piet told me he was going to the toilet.
"After he had not returned for a long time, I started getting worried because he sometimes lost his mind and would just walk in the yard.
"When I saw he wasn't there, I woke up the family and we went searching for him, but we had no success."
Her son Sammy said: "At 8am someone came running to tell us that a man was assaulting our father and accusing him of evil.
"When we reached the scene, the man had already taken my father to the police station. We went to fetch him and took him to the hospital, but he later died."
Lieutenant Sarah Lesabane said: "The suspect is on the run but the police are looking for him.
"The post mortem will determine the cause of death."
