A 29-year-old Illinois high school teacher arrested for sleeping with a 16-year-old student in the back of her car wishes "with all her heart" that she could "take it all back."
Cops caught Ashley Blumenshine with the teen in her vehicle parked outside a Plainfield, Ill. Kohl's department store in 2011.
They found a used condom, with officers believing the pair - who had been seeing each other for more than a month - had had used it just minutes before.
"The person in the back was partially unclothed," said Plainfield Police Chief William Doster of the student.
The Plainfield North High School dance and physical education teacher, of Marseilles, was arrested and charged with having sex with a minor. She then quit her job.
On Friday she pleaded guilty and was sentenced to two years of probation and 30 days in jail with a day-for-day credit, reports the Chicago Sun-Times.
The court heard that Blumenshine wrote a letter in January 2012, detailing her regrets about what had happened.
The note, which was included in her court file, said: "In my wildest dreams I never would have thought that this turn of events would have happened to me.
"Somewhere within a few months time, I lost Ashley."
She said she could not "take back what I did" but "only show everyone including myself that I am a good person and one who will never make the same mistake twice."
Apologizing to everyone involved, she revealed she was now working as a bank teller, had started dating a church-going man and hoped to return to school to become a physical therapist.
